Christa A. Whitten

Connecting to your inner landscape through art

Christa’s newest series combines vivid, emotive abstract painting with highly detailed graphite renderings of spiritually charged locations. Her upcoming show specifically focuses on spiritual locations which completely or partially restrict women from entry - thus, restricting access to the divine. In these works, painting and drawing are not background and foreground to each other. They are fully participating partners whose conversations produce ethereal visual paradoxes that invite us to experience deeper.

Christa is classically trained in several forms of art and graduated cum laude from the highly respected Paier College of Art. Recent collaborations include small works for ‘Bundeleen’, a large flowing painting entitled Meta-Fall for 'The Pyramid Scheme’ and ‘Behind the Lilac Bush’ where she painted two 90-foot-long panels of Japanese masa paper which was then folded by an origami artist and hung to create a cooperative veil for industrial sculptures.

She was extremely honored to have been an awarded artist in Silvermine Gallery’s 68th Annual Art of The Northeast exhibition. Currently, she is expanding her skills with the Natural Science Illustration program at the Yale Peabody Museum and creating new pieces for upcoming shows.
